If you're out of mp, allow continued casting at a cost to health. 'Charge' at different rates for each class, depending on their magical aptitude.

Might make life interesting...

I don't agree with you on this. Last updates were meant to decrease the power of casters and now you're suggesting to increase their power again. Usually they use holding spells to prevent getting hit so using some hp wont be a problem. Besides, healing agents can be acquired quite easily. With a large amount of them, some one can cast over and over just by using healing stuff. This would definately not benefit the hitters.

imagine a high cleric as Rygar mending himself for like say 15 hp's...

not only that.. imagine Kampfer casting engulf or immolate (a DK lvl 18 got only 55mp) so if I solo something and I don't notice by any mischance I can put myself in trouble by losing more hp than I should :)

you should have a choice if you want to do this (health casting) as a (set health cast). also, you should NOT be able to cast healing spells on yourself or on others
