Do new players feel welcomed in LoS

In another thread,
Before further publicity is made, I think we, as players, should be considering first whether new players feel welcome when they arrive in LoS. I am sure we have all seen new characters arrive, but what are their initial reactions? Presuming that they are familiar with mordor-style muds and visit the "newbie" training area, they will be kept occupied for a while, absorbing the information giving out by the guide. Then they will descend the stairs and step out onto the streets of Amethyst. What will make them want to explore? to come back again and again? Some will be new to role-play and some will have come because it is a RP mud. Regardless, I think people will be looking at the player-interaction. Do other players make them feel welcome?
Does everyone on this forum take the time to "welcome new characters to LoS"? For some characters, this can be done in-character; other times, it would have to be an OOC welcome. And we all need to remember that new players don't know our multiple "personalities" and hence we should be greeting them and encouraging them with each of our characters. In my experience to-date, it is pretty easy to determine those who are seriously looking for a "mud" to play. Some get confused about IC and OOC conversations, but I re-call having the same problems when I first arrived, so I give people a lot of latitude in that area. If they are talking to me with tells about OOC stuff, I simply reply OOC ... that way I am not messing up my RP and they will eventually learn if they decide to stay. I am not advocating giving away good weapons and armour to every soul that steps out of the Immigration office; simply we should be actively encouraging new players as they climb up through the ranks of their guild.
